Teudy’s Story
Teudy started doing electrical work in 2006 in the Dominican Republic, prior to moving to the U.S. He had graduated from a technical college and worked for about three years putting up power lines. After moving to Ocean City, New Jersey he worked two years in construction until he found a position with Green Tech Energy Services, where he worked on commercial properties doing electrical maintenance work and installing energy efficient lighting. On July 24, 2016 he was at Brigantine Beach with friends. Before leaving, he ran into the ocean to cool off and jumped into a wave where he hit his head on a shallow sand patch.
His wife was two weeks away from giving birth to his second son when he was paralyzed!
Initially, Teudy stayed home helping take care of his boys while his wife started up a home based business. They lived off proceeds from a benefit organized by Green Tech Energy Services and Social Security disability. He is currently working with the New Jersey Vocational Rehab Department, taking tests to figure out his new line of work. That may involve returning to school to learn new/additional skills which would require Teudy to transport himself. Based on that, the Martinez’requested a pickup with hand controls from the foundation. Teudy’s wife Halley learned of the foundation from another grant recipient, Deanna Krueger. For the next couple of months the foundation work with Halley to find a suitable vehicle. Finally, a Chevy Colorado meeting all the requirements was located in neighboring Pennsylvania. After arranging to purchase the vehicle on behalf of Teudy and Halley, the foundation worked with Mobility Works in New Jersey to supply and install the hand controls
Thanks to all of your donations, the foundation was able to grant Teudy’s request.
Following delivery of the vehicle, Halley told the foundation, “The truck runs and looks great, Teudy is so happy! This is so helpful, we can’t thank you enough!”
