Cleveland’s Story
Cleveland Johnson of Georgetown, South Carolina is one of those sons of the construction trades who made an honest living by doing hard work. After high school, Cleveland attended a trade school, learning brick masonry and carpentry. For the next 41 years, he worked for Robinson Masonry, Keith Builders and other firms on everything from log cabins commercial structures.
In August, 2017 Cleveland fell out of a tree, and became a quadriplegic!
When Cleveland got out of rehab in March, he moved in with his daughter. She lived nearby in a small, rented mobile home with 2 small children, and she wanted to find a home that would accommodate them all. She purchased a larger mobile home that would accommodate everyone, but it was in bad shape and in need of repair. Until those repairs were made, it was inhabitable. The list of work required included replacing floors, drywall and ceilings in various areas of the home. In addition, there was some roofing, electrical and plumbing work required, along with the installation of a tile field, entry steps and a deck. His daughter came across our foundation through online research, and contacted us for assistance. Given Cleveland’s background, they knew of some builders who were willing to provide their services for a reasonable fee, and the foundation worked with several of them to coordinate and complete the work. At completion, Cleveland said “We were praying you could assist us. As for me, now I will be able to get outside. I haven’t been able to go outside to just sit and enjoy the sun in over a year. We just don’t know how to thank you, but God bless you and your foundation.”
Thanks to all our donors, Cleveland, his daughter and her children are now living in their new home! See pictures below.
