Kris Luttrell’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience, determination, and the drive to redefine what’s possible. Kris, of Gainesville, Texas, built his career as a General Contractor specializing in roofs and HVAC systems, but in 2016 his life changed when he was struck by a car, resulting in a C-4 to C-7 incomplete spinal injury. Despite the severity of his injury, Kris has undergone 26 back surgeries over five years and continues to attend physical therapy two to three times per week, showing unwavering commitment to regaining functionality.
Even with these challenges, Kris has refused to let his disability define him. In 2019, after years of inpatient rehabilitation, he began learning Xactimate and performing insurance supplements from home, paving the way for full-time employment. Between 2021 and 2025, Kris gained experience in new construction and re-roofs, managing 15–20 sales professionals, completing hundreds of projects, and handling insurance claims and vendor relations. He also developed skills in accounting and operations management, all while navigating the physical demands of his recovery. Earlier this year, Kris was laid off, but rather than let this setback slow him down, he is now focused on starting his own roofing and repair business, Xactly Rite, combining his experience with a vision of empowering others.
With support from The Joseph Groh Foundation, Kris has received essential tools to launch this next chapter, including a Samsung tablet, DJI drone, and supporting software. These resources will allow him to manage job sites more efficiently, communicate clearly with clients, and deliver high-quality services, all while reducing the physical demands on his body.
“I’m a person with a disability, and I’m determined to show that we can succeed in entrepreneurship just like anyone else,” says Kris. “Starting my own company is about proving that disabilities do not define capability. By supporting me, The Joseph Groh Foundation and its supporters are helping make that possible.”
Kris plans to use future funding for general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, as well as marketing to grow his business. His ultimate goal is to create a company that not only provides excellent service but also offers opportunities for other people with disabilities, helping to break down barriers and challenge stereotypes.
The Joseph Groh Foundation is proud to support Kris Luttrell, whose determination and vision reflect the impact that proper resources, community support, and opportunity can have. With the Foundation’s help, Kris is turning ambition into action and inspiring others along the way.
